Becoming a BURIDA member

The 7-step membership application: eligibility, documents to gather, signature, then payment once the application has been approved.

Membership brings you into BURIDA's repertoire: your works can then be managed, your royalties collected and distributed, and a membership card is issued to you. The whole application is filed online.

To prepare at least one validated work in the category you are applying for, an identity photograph, your identity document, your birth certificate extract, and depending on your situation a CV, parental consent, a registration authorisation, a residence certificate, a contract or a physical medium.

Before you start

Two blocking conditions:

  • you must have at least one validated work in the category you are applying for. If you do not, start with the guide "Declaring a work";
  • you may only have one membership application in progress. While an application is being processed, a new one is refused.

Thresholds by capacity

The number of works required depends on the category and on the capacity you claim.

Music

Capacity Threshold
Arranger 12 works
Producer 2 albums of 6 tracks, or 12 works
Publisher 10 works
Other capacities 6 works

Audiovisual

Capacity Threshold
Producer 1 work
Other capacities 2 works and 30 minutes

The 7 steps

  1. Category — you choose the category of works you are applying for.
  2. Works — you attach the validated works that support your application.
  3. Roles and capacities — you state in what capacity you act (author, composer, performer, arranger, publisher, producer…). Each capacity is checked against the thresholds above.
  4. Documents — you upload the supporting documents.
  5. Membership deeds and reserved rights — you read the deeds, state which rights you reserve where applicable, and sign.
  6. Membership card — you provide what is needed to produce your card.
  7. Summary — you review the whole file and submit it.

Documents at step 4

Required:

  • identity photograph,
  • identity document,
  • birth certificate extract.

Depending on your situation:

  • CV — optional,
  • parental consent — if you are a minor,
  • registration authorisation and residence certificate — if you are not an Ivorian national,
  • contract and physical medium — if you are applying as a producer or a publisher.

Accepted formats: jpg, jpeg, png, pdf. Maximum size: 10 MB per document.

The signature

At step 5, a handwritten signature is required: you draw it directly on screen. It commits you to the deeds presented, so this step cannot be skipped.

Payment

Warning you pay nothing during the application. Payment only opens after BURIDA has approved your application. No money should be demanded of you in order to file a case.

Once the application is approved, the amount due appears in your personal area. At the rates currently in force, which may change, it is made up of:

  • 10,000 XOF per capacity applied for,
  • 10,000 XOF of share capital, due only for a first membership,
  • 20,000 XOF for the membership card,
  • the applicable FNE levy.

Payment is made online (see the guide "Paying online").

After approval

  • You become a member: your personal area gains the procedures reserved for members.
  • Your membership card is valid for 3 years.

Good to know membership status is only acquired when the application is approved — not when it is filed, nor when it is signed. Follow your case from your personal area.
